Configure charges and discounts

By using custom charges and discounts, you can manage and bill across multiple types of customers and resellers as required for your business.

With Orbitera, your configured charges and discounts are automatically added as line items in the cloud bill. You don’t have to spend time calculating the charges and discounts yourself.

This can be a common support structure across all of your clouds, providing a predictable multi-cloud experience for customers.

Charges

You can configure tiers, fixed amounts, and fixed percents for charges, and then apply these charges to different customers and partners.

  • Fixed percent charge – In the marketplace, businesses are becoming accustomed to paying for services as a percent of the underlying cost, so managed service providers and system integrators apply a managed service charge that is a certain percent of spend.

  • Fixed amount charge – Some charges might make more sense as a fixed amount, for example a setup fee.

  • Tiered charges – To encourage higher volume sales, you can apply charges in tiers. This means that you offer a price for X amount of spend within each tier. The markup per tier can be a specified amount or a percent. The important point is that the markup decreases for larger amounts of spend.

Example of tiered charges

This example shows how you might create and charge custom service fees for support plans linked to spend levels.

Monthly charge % of monthly billing
$100 minimum -
$0 - $10K 10%
$10K - $80K 7%
$80K - $250K 5%
>$250K 3%

The following screen shows how to configure tiered charges.

Discounts

Here are the ways you can apply adjustable per-campaign discounts.

  • Fixed percent discount – Offer a discount as a fixed percentage. For example, a 10% discount.

  • Fixed amount discount – Offer a discount as a fixed amount. For example, a $100 discount.

  • Tiered discount – Offer a discount for X amount of spend within each tier. The discount increases for larger amounts of spend.

Example of tiered discounts

This example shows how you might set up tiered discounts applied to a seller.

Reseller discount % of spend
$1K - $2K 5%
2K - $5K 10%
$5K - $10K 15%
>$10K 20%

Minimums and maximums

You can apply a minimum and a maximum charge and a minimum and maximum discount.

After the charge or discount is calculated, it is capped to be within the minimum and maximum settings.

In other words, if the calculated charge would be less than the minimum, the charge is set to the minimum. If the calculated charge would be greater than maximum, the charge is set to the maximum.

Discount minimums and maximums work the same way. If the calculated discount would be less than the minimum configured discount, the discount is set to the minimum. If the calculated discount would be greater than maximum, it is set to the maximum.

Example minimum charge

A minimum charge of $100 means that the support plan charges at least $100, regardless of usage amount. In the charges example, if the customer or partner has usage of less than $1000, the support charge would be $100, because 10% of <$1000 would be <$100.
